The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Arts and Sciences—the largest of the University’s 16 schools and colleges—has reached the $100 million fundraising milestone within the University’s $2 billion Building Our Future Together capital campaign, the most successful fundraising campaign in the history of the University and of Western Pennsylvania.

A commitment by Arts and Sciences alumnus Ralph E. Yingst (FAS ’64) and his wife, Helen, to establish the Ralph E. and Helen Yingst Scholarship Fund in the Department of Chemistry was the contribution that enabled the school to reach this historic mark in its fundraising efforts.

The University Club will undergo a major overhaul as part of a $66.86 million package of campuswide construction and renovation projects approved recently by the University Board of Trustees’ Property and Facilities Committee.

Together, the package’s nine construction and renovation projects across the campus are expected to create 359 construction and 144 construction-support jobs. In addition, the University will pay building permit taxes of $53,437 on the construction costs and $19,683 annually in real estate taxes on a third-party lease that is part of the deal.

The United States Steel Foundation has awarded the University of Pittsburgh grants totaling $605,000 to support a number of student-based initiatives.
