The medicinal herb Gingko biloba does not reduce the risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease developing in either the healthy elderly or those with mild cognitive impairment, according to a large multicenter trial led by researchers in Pitt’s School of Medicine.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will use a $1 million bequest from the late Agnes L. Thomas to attract an additional $1 million in endowed scholarship funds through the newly established Agnes L. and Lewis Lyle Thomas Scholarship Challenge.
