Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg and Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell were among those who paid tribute to Cappy, a Pitt alumnus, during a May 5 public memorial service in Heinz Chapel.

After earning two academic degrees at Pitt, Ralph J. Cappy crafted a distinguished career that included service as Pennsylvania's Chief Justice. "But in a very real sense, Ralph never left this campus," Nordenberg recalled. "Pitt was in his heart; he believed in its mission; and he supported the University in a broad range of ways and over the course of many years."
