The two places couldnt be more different: the Soufrière Hills Volcano, in the sunny Caribbean Island of Montserrat, a few hundred miles from the Equator, and the Bezymianny Volcano, on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, a similar distance from the Arctic Circle.
And volcanologist Michael Ramsey is able to study both from the comfortand safetyof the Image Visualization and Infrared Spectroscopy (IVIS) Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh.
