Pitt Students Win First Place in PT Reseach Challenge

Physical therapy students from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences were responsible for more than a quarter of the $78,000 raised in this year’s Miami-Marquette Challenge, which benefits physical therapy research.

This year, Pitt students raised almost $22,000, marking the fourth year in a row that the school has received first place honors. A recognition banquet was held for the participating students on June 22, in the Anaheim Convention Center.

Students at Marquette University created the challenge in 1989 to increase awareness among future professionals of the need for research and to raise money for scientific studies. Since its inaugural season, the challenge has grown to become one of the most significant campaigns for the Foundation for Physical Therapy, with funds raised entirely by students.

In the past 12 years, the challenge has garnered more than $417,000 for the foundation.
