Editor Receives Award For Hospice Care Series

Linda K. Schmitmeyer, editor of the Pitt Campaign Chronicle, received the Pennsylvania Hospice Network (PHN) 2001 Journalism Award for the three-part series, Coming Home: Hospice lets patients take control of life’s ending, which was published in the Butler Eagle newspaper in April 2000.

Schmitmeyer, who was the features editor at the Butler Eagle prior to coming to Pitt in February, received the award at PHN’s annual meeting and conference in May. The series was cited for “its sensitive and accurate portrayal of all aspects of hospice care, as it pertains to both patients and their families.”

The PHN Journalism Award recognizes work that helps increase community awareness of the hospice concept of care.
