Local inventor Joseph Lane shows off a prototype of a bicycle transmission that Pitts School of Engineering produced. Working with the Manufacturing Assistance Center (MAC), the Swanson Center for Product Innovation, and Bucknells Small Business Development Center, Pitt hopes to help bring Lanes patented design to reality. Lanes PowerShift transmission, using pins instead of sprockets to interface with the chain that propels the bicycle, is an innovative alternative to the sprocket-derailleur transmission system found on most bicycles today.
