Alliance Plans Diversity Day 2003March 24, 2003 IssueBy Don H. Nguyen The Pennsylvania Service-Learning Alliance (PSLA) at the University of Pittsburgh will hold Diversity Day 2003 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 31 at the William Pitt Union. The event, which requires preregistration, is open to high school teachers and students. Diversity Day 2003 participants will learn and discuss issues that relate to race, gender, disabilities, nationality, and age. This event also will feature activities that foster a better understanding of social and educational diversity topics. Maintaining their commitment to civic improvement initiatives, the PSLA will introduce teachers and students to methods by which diversity can be addressed in schools and communities through service learning. The PSLA is a community oriented training and assistance provider for the Department of Educations Learn and Serve program in Pennsylvania. By integrating service learning with the academic curriculum, the PSLA emphasizes the value of civic responsibility through educational, hands-on activities. Diversity Day 2003 is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Educations Bureau of Community and Student Services and the Corporation for National and Community Service. To register, contact the PSLA at 412-648-1440, or visit www.pitt.edu/~psla/PSLA/WesternPennsylvania.html#Diversity. |
