Five Pitt People Win Vectors Awards

Five Pitt people will be honored at the 64th annual Vectors/Pittsburgh Men and Women of the Year Awards Dinner Saturday in the Omni William Penn Hotel.

University of Pittsburgh Trustee Thomas J. Usher, CEO of U.S. Steel, will be named Man of the Year. Usher (ENGR ’69, ’66, ’71) has served on the Board of Trustees since 1992.

Pitt Trustee William E. Trueheart, president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation, will be named Man of the Year in Finance.

Ann Dugan (KGSB ’85), executive director of Pitt’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, will be named Woman of Year in Technology.

Honored as Man of the Year in Community Service will be Freddie Fu (MED ’77), The David Silver Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Pitt School of Medicine as well as director of the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine and head team physician for the University’s athletics department.

David M. Orenstein (FAS ’89), professor of pediatrics in the Pitt School of Medicine, will be named Man of the Year in Science and Medicine.

Vectors Pittsburgh raises funds for many community service projects and has a long relationship with the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind and the University of Pittsburgh. Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg was named Man of the Year in 1997.
