Five Pitt People Win Vectors AwardsFebruary 23, 2004 IssueBy Brian Connelly
University of Pittsburgh Trustee Thomas J. Usher, CEO of U.S. Steel, will be named Man of the Year. Usher (ENGR 69, 66, 71) has served on the Board of Trustees since 1992. Pitt Trustee William E. Trueheart, president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation, will be named Man of the Year in Finance. Ann Dugan (KGSB 85), executive director of Pitts Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, will be named Woman of Year in Technology. Honored as Man of the Year in Community Service will be Freddie Fu (MED 77), The David Silver Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Pitt School of Medicine as well as director of the UPMC Center for Sports Medicine and head team physician for the Universitys athletics department. David M. Orenstein (FAS 89), professor of pediatrics in the Pitt School of Medicine, will be named Man of the Year in Science and Medicine. Vectors Pittsburgh raises funds for many community service projects and has a long relationship with the Western Pennsylvania School for the Blind and the University of Pittsburgh. Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg was named Man of the Year in 1997. This years ceremony will be emceed by Pittsburgh radio personality Lynn Cullen. For tickets, call 412-355-2055. |
