World Premiere

Just Above My Head: A Jazzopera, composed by Pitt music professor Nathan Davis, had its world premiere June 9 in Pittsburgh’s new Creative and Performing Arts Theater. Based on a novel by James Baldwin, Just Above My Head combines jazz with operatic and gospel singing, dance, and orchestral arrangements. The performance was staged by the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. Above, performing on the raised dais in the center of the stage surrounded by dancers, are Davis, right, on the soprano saxophone and Jimmy Owens on the trumpet.
