Tower of Light

Artist and 1980 Pitt-Greensburg grad Terry Bengel created a stained-glass mural titled Upward to the Light that was installed recently on the Millstein Library tower at UPG (left). Working in his Greensburg studio over the course of five months, Bengel crafted the eight panels of the 32-foot-tall, 14-foot-wide mural using more than 1,000 pieces of glass. Bengel says the images in the mural are based on the allegory of the cave in Plato’s Republic, which describes education through the metaphor of light. Bengel received the B.A. degree in fine arts from UPG.
