Nominations are being sought for the 2005 Chancellor’s Award for Staff for Excellence in Service to the Community and Chancellor’s Award for Staff for Excellence in Service to the University. There will be up to five awards in each of the categories, and recipients will receive $2,500 and be recognized at the 2005 Honors Convocation.

The Service to Community Award recognizes staff members whose dedication and effort have made their communities better places to live and has improved the quality of life for others. The Service to the University Award honors staff members who have made outstanding contributions to the University of Pittsburgh.

These awards are given annually to part-time or full-time staff members who have been employed at the University for a minimum of five years. Individuals, groups, students, or alumni can make nominations; self-nominations also are accepted.

Nomination forms, which are being mailed to Pitt faculty and staff, should be submitted to Jane W. Thompson, Pitt associate vice chancellor for planning and analysis and chair of the 2005 Selection Committee, 1817 Cathedral of Learning; the deadline is Nov. 15.

Nominations for the Service to the Community Award should include an explanation of why the candidate meets or exceeds the guidelines for this award; letters of recommendation from officials of community and/or professional organizations that the candidate has served, including relevant information regarding any achievement awards received by the nominee; and listings of services provided by the candidate from officials of community and/or professional organizations that the candidate has served.

Nominations for Service to the University Award should include an explanation of why the candidate meets or exceeds the guidelines for this award; letters of recommendation supporting the candidate’s nomination from individuals who have utilized his or her services (including faculty, staff, students, and alumni); and a listing of services that the candidate has performed for the University.

A committee appointed by the chancellor will review the nominations and materials submitted and will select up to five persons for each award. For more information, contact Stacey Czerniejewski at 412-624-6576 or at sczerniejewski@bc.pitt.edu.
