The Department of University Marketing Communications (UMC) within Pitt’s Office of Public Affairs was honored with 32 awards at the Western Pennsylvania Printing Industry Association’s (WPPIA) 39th Annual Awards Luncheon, held last month at the Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh.
UMC received the Judges’ Award, 11 Best of Category Awards, and 20 Honorable Mentions.
Each year several hundred entries in 14 categories are submitted to the competition by Western Pennsylvania advertising agencies, art studios, printers, corporations, institutions of higher education, and other organizations.
Entries are judged by a panel of printing industry professionals, and the winning entries are selected on the basis of five criteria: quality of printing, type selection and design, choice of paper, creativity, and finishing work.
“The purpose of this important regional competition is to give recognition to the quality of printing produced in Western Pennsylvania and to encourage creative effort,” said Michelle Garraux, UMC executive director. “UMC and our clients are delighted to be honored this year with 32 awards. This is UMC’s best showing ever in the WPPIA awards, and the first time we have been honored with the Judges Award, which is presented to the judges’ favorite entry and is one of the competition’s top two awards.”
