March 21, 2005 Issue

By Amy Dugas

Pitt’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a special Alumni Day event April 9.

Anniversary celebrations will begin with tours of the school as well as department presentations, displays, and demonstrations from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in Forbes Tower, 3600 Forbes Ave. Attendees also have the option of taking a shuttle to tour the Center for Sports Medicine from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Event festivities continue with the D.T. Watson Alumni Reunion from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the Forbes Tower fourth-floor Student Lounge, where former students can reminisce with fellow classmates and faculty.

The day will culminate with an alumni reception and awards ceremony at 5 p.m. in Alumni Hall’s Connolly Ballroom. The 2005 Distinguished Alumni Awards, the Dean’s Choice Award, and the SHRS Philanthropic Alumni Award will be presented at the reception. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served and attendees will be able to place bids for silent auction items.

Pittsburgh native John Siciliano will be the keynote speaker for the evening. After losing his right leg in a car accident, Siciliano has gone on to a career as a paralympic athlete, actor, and motivational speaker.

Registration for Alumni Day is required by April 1. To RSVP for any of the above events, call SHRS at 412-383-6560. For more information, visit www.shrs.pitt.edu.

The School of Health-Related Professions, later renamed SHRS, was launched in 1969 and featured only three departments. In the 35 years since its inception, the school has grown to include more than 800 students, 76 faculty members, and seven academic departments, four of which have been nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
