Coach's Pep Talk
March 21, 2005 Issue

Ken Carter made headlines in 1999 when he locked his undefeated, state playoff-bound Richmond (Calif.) High school basketball team out of the gym for failing to keep up their grades and forced them to hit the books. The coach’s story inspired a movie starring Samuel L. Jackson. The real “Coach Carter” will give a lecture titled “Average is Just Not Good Enough. Period” in the Pitt-Greensburg campus’ Chambers Hall Gym at 7 p.m. March 31. To reserve tickets, call 724-836-7497.
