FAMILY DEDICATION Fleeing religious persecution, Harry Tansky immigrated to Pittsburgh from Poland early in the 20th century. Here, he met his wife-to-be, Jeannette, a Russian immigrant. The couple operated a hair salon in what was then called the William Penn Hotel, downtown, and raised three children: Burt, Shirley, and Eva.
On June 23, Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg joined with Pitt trustees, faculty, staff, and Tansky family members and friends in dedicating the Tansky Family Lounge in the William Pitt Union. Funded by the Tanskys in memory of Harry and Jeannette Tansky, the lounge is a gathering area for Pitt students, faculty, and staff.
