Issue Date:
February 4, 2013

A story set in a parallel universe where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality is taboo comes to the stage as the University of Pittsburgh-based Pitt Repertory Theatre presents Zanna, Don’t! Feb. 14-March 3.

Zanna, Don’t! tells the story of goings-on at Heartsville High School, set in the Midwest, where the jocks on the chess team dominate the school’s social ladder, the Girls’ Intramural Mechanical Bull-Riding Team sets the rules for fashion, and every senior wants to be crowned Prom King and King or Queen and Queen. But the small community is turned on its head when Zanna and his friends stage a musical featuring a scandalous heterosexual kiss.

Zanna, Don’t! was written by Tim Acito and Alexander Dinelaris and is directed by visiting lecturer Robert C.T. Steele. Vocal direction is by theatre arts professor Stacey Cabaj and musical direction is by Harry Jamison, a senior music major at Pitt. Junior theatre arts major Rocky Paterra stars in the title role.
