Issue Date:
February 15, 2016

A crowd of faculty, students, and community members gathered at the William Pitt Union on Feb. 4 to see the new tribute to Pittsburgh-born jazz pianist Erroll Garner. The display was assembled by Pitt Jazz Studies doctoral students Billy D. Scott, Ben Barson, and Jeff Weston under the guidance of Assistant Professor of Music Michael Heller. The display consists of photos, letters, memorabilia, awards, and other items that tell the story of Garner and his manager Martha Glaser, who fought to protect his rights as a Black artist in the 1950s.
