A total of 3,524 incoming Pitt freshmen students hold umbrellas aloft during a six-minute choreographed dance on the lawn adjacent to the Petersen. The event celebrated the centenary of Pitt alumnus Gene Kelly (1912-1996) and set a Guinness World Record for “Greatest Number of People Simultaneously Performing an Umbrella Dance at a Single Venue.”
