Live From the Hill
Pianist and Pitt alumnus Geri Allen (A&S ’83G) brought jazz back to the Hill District June 1 at Live From the Hill, the annual fundraiser for the Hill House Association. Allen and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington accompanied Grammy Award-winning bassist Esperanza Spalding for an evening of jazz before an enthusiastic crowd at the Hill House Kaufmann Center. Spalding, also a multilingual singer and the first jazz musician ever honored with the Best New Artist Grammy Award, released the album Chamber Music Society in 2010, on which both Allen and Carrington played. The event raised about $50,000.
