Newsmaker: AAAC Honors Pitt Alumni Athletes During Homecoming Weekend
The African American Alumni Council gave plaques to three of Pitt’s ’s Olympic athletes during an Oct. 14 brunch. From left, Arnold Sowell (BUS ’57), who competed in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, where he received an honorable mention for his performance in the 800-meter race; Roger Kingdom (CGS ’02), a Pitt All-American in track and field who won gold medals in the 110-meter hurdles during the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and Seoul, respectively; and Herb Douglas (EDUC ’48, ’50G), who won a bronze medal in the long jump during the 1948 London games
