Newsmakers: Freedom on Wheels

Issue Date:
May 16, 2016

Pitt employees contributed about $5,400 to buy three adaptive bicycles for local children with special needs. Contributing staffers from Pitt’s Department of Housing, Food Services, and Panther Central gathered May 3 in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room as the children—two of whom are pictured here—received their bikes. The three-wheelers had been adapted to each child’s needs through the “My Bike” Program, part of Variety-the Children’s Charity, which has provided more than 1,000 bikes for eligible youngsters in 50 Pennsylvania counties since 2012.
