NORTHERN IRELAND LEADER VISITS
Mark Durkan (center), leader of Northern Ireland’s Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) in the British House of Commons, visited Pitt May 21 to meet with Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg and participate in a one-hour conversation with Pitt faculty members and administrators on a variety of subjects, including the new jointly administered government in Northern Ireland and its impact on education and research in the province.
Durkan was a key member of the SDLP’s team in the negotiations that led to Northern Ireland’s Good Friday peace agreement.
