Sister Cities: Wuhan and Pittsburgh
Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg met with Yangtze Daily Senior Journalist Yu Xi on Feb. 18 in the chancellor’s Cathedral of Learning office. Yu is writing a book about the 20 “sister cities” of Wuhan, including Pittsburgh. Such sister-city relationships establish a positive connection between a Chinese city or region and a counterpart in another country. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and, with 8.3 million residents, the most populous city in Central China. It established its sister city relationship with Pittsburgh in 1982. In addition, Wuhan University is the partner institution for Pitt’s Confucius Institute. (Mike Drazdzinski/CIDDE)
